What's My Job Like?

While it may be a challenging, all too time demanding, and downright impossible task; my job is this simple: read the scriptures (lots of them) and answer questions about faith.

As for the events that fill up my 24/7 on-call life, that'll have to wait for another article, or series of articles. :)

Julie & Julia

Loved this film! One of the best date nights ever!
I laughed, I cried.
The story is inspiring, makes me want to start a cooking club to share my passion for homemade cheese and home grown herbs.

Thanks!

Thanks to many of you who sent Christmas gifts! We really don't deserve all the great treats that have come our way. We even got enough cash to upgrade our laptop!
Yeah, happy laptop!

You've Got Coke In Your Heart

Met a neighbor on the street in front our house tonight. She's a descendant from French nobility (who isn't?). She's feeling guilty (who doesn't?). She's attracted by Buddhism (who wouldn't be?). She said she would be interested in getting to know God. I said he's been waiting for her and I just happened to have a free Bible in my bag. She said she could never change because she has detestable thoughts in her heart. She wished she could have peace like I radiating from me.

I took her to the counter of Häagen Dazs and grabbed the first drink I could get my hands on - a bottle of Coca-Cola. I looked her in the eyes and said, "You have Coke in your heart. It's acidic and bitter and sour. You want orange juice in your heart, but nothing you can do to this Coke can transform it into orange juice. You can't add anything, food coloring won't help. But Jesus can transform water into wine. He can transform your Coca-Cola into orange juice." She was staring straight at me following closely. She mumbled something about Zen and I jumped back in. "The problem is Buddhism will never promise to transform your heart. The only thing it can promise is that you will have to try harder. And you've been trying all of your life haven't you? It's not working. You need Jesus to change you from the inside out. Ask him and he'll do it."

Eight People Read The Bible At Häagen Dazs Tonight

This week we are all reading Daniel together, twice. The first time to refresh the story, and the second time to learn about Daniel's prayer life. Want to join us?

Waiting for Residency

So one day we finally received our temporary visitor card. The same day we need to call to schedule an appointment for the next interview. The interview is scheduled for Saint Patrick's Day! Yeah!

We are weary of constantly living with the anxiety of one-year visas promising nothing other than monthly meetings and unending paperwork. Documents returned in the mail announcing we must start over, result in sleepless nights and extra days dedicated to paperwork rather than people.

When we show up for interviews we feel out of place among all of the new immigrants straight of the boat. "Do you speak French?" The receptionist asks disdainfully. Of course I speak French, I've been living in your country for over 6 years. I live here.

I feel French. France is home. Why don't we have some kind of residency?

France doesn't have a permanent residency card or green card. They do allow Americans to have double nationality (which is what all of our Colleagues have done now). So we're thinking that might be the way to go. It would mean plenty of interviews and paperwork, but after 18 months we could never have another meeting again. That would be nice.

Here's hoping and praying. The next step is still Saint Patrick's Day. Think about us when you're wearing green.
